Audiobooks I listened to:
-
Blood Meridian by Cormac McArthy
This is my new favorite book. Masterful.
-
The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright
9/11 and the history leading up to it. Very illuminating on a topic I only had a superficial knowledge of. Well written, intellectualy and viscerally engaging, and suprisingly humanizing.
-
Going Clear by Lawrence Wright
The history of Scientology. Strange and disturbing. An interesting companion piece to Wright's previous expose on religion and it's affect on minds and the world (The Looming Tower). These two religions, one ancient, one brand new, are as alien from each other as possible... and yet people become enraptured in their unique esoteric philosophies of life/reality to equal degrees. Listening to these two books back-to-back makes me want to study religion and psychology.
